Here’s a clip of a new song Chad, Mike and I were working on before leaving for tour. Inspired by fantasies of one day fleeing the city for the mountains. Plus I’ve always had an obsession with names starting with the letter A.

Messin’ around in Reason. All keys performed live by me - solo only quantized, but unedited and uninterrupted. Just playin’ to play.

This song is called “Coming Home.” Chad and I only got to play it once, but I really like it and I found this scratch rehearsal recording we made in my dining room. It plays through the 2nd chorus. Doesn’t get anymore raw! Enjoy!

So…a long time ago I posted a rehearsal clip on this blog (if you care to look back) of a song called “All The Love” by me and fellow writer Chad Vaccarino, featuring Ian Axel. It always takes me a while to get through the endless gigs of audio on my computer, but THIS is an excerpt from a live performance of it at Rockwood Music Hall on February 17th in the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 2010.
I decided to post it because I’m kinda mesmerized by the process through which a song is conceived, written, rehearsed, performed and reacted to by an audience and I find it to be amazing and kind of beautiful. This excerpt is a very satisfying culmination of that process and work. Thanks for listening.

I’ve recently been embracing my long love and passion for film music. That, coupled with the fact I’m now able to record midi into my computer = composition exercise! This is a midi orchestra mock-up of a little idea I had a couple of weeks ago that started out just as the opening counterpoint and then I layered a bunch of different parts on top and then ended up expanding on in the end. This is hardly the last idea/exercise I hope to have in the coming weeks/months/years - just an attempt to hone my skills in scoring which is something I’ve been into for a long time. P.S. forgive the midi instruments - Reason 4 tries, but it’s definitely not the real thing.
